PNEM Opportunities
funding-ready mining assets

Spain has launched its National Mining Exploration Program (PNEM) 2026–2030 to locate old mines and revalorize mining waste for strategic minerals — the exact niche GeaSpirit is built for. This page maps that opportunity and how GeaSpirit’s intelligence turns 320,000+ scored assets into funding-ready targets.

€2M first call (2026) up to 50% exploration · 60% waste studies annual calls to 2030 aligned with EU CRMA

What the PNEM is

// National Mining Exploration Program · approved 10 March 2026

Approved by the Council of Ministers on 10 March 2026 as part of Spain’s first Action Plan for the Sustainable Management of Mineral Raw Materials 2026–2030, the PNEM aims to improve knowledge of Spain’s mineral resources and reduce dependence on imported critical raw materials, in line with the EU Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).

Goals
  • Discover new mineral resources
  • Re-study old mines never evaluated with modern technology
  • Analyse tailings & mining waste to recover valuable minerals
  • Build a modern database of Spain’s mineral potential
  • Enable private investment through better geological data
First call · funding

€2,000,000 across two lines:

  • €1M — geological-mining research projects
  • €1M — economic evaluation of mining waste

Aid intensity: up to 50% of eligible exploration costs, up to 60% for mining-waste studies (higher for SMEs). Annual calls foreseen through 2030.

Pilot showcase — Sierra Morena (Andalusia)

// four state reserves · IGME-CSIC + HUNOSA · ≥ 3 years

The government has reserved four zones on historical workings in Córdoba and Jaén to study whether old mining waste holds strategic minerals recoverable in an economically and environmentally viable way. This is not an immediate re-opening of mines — it is exactly the waste-revalorization intelligence problem GeaSpirit models.

Where GeaSpirit fits

// the intelligence layer for funding-ready targets

The PNEM creates demand for exactly what GeaSpirit does. GeaSpirit is not a mining-rights holder and does not apply for these grants — it is the screening & targeting layer that helps rights-holders, junior explorers, consultancies and public institutions identify and justify the assets worth funding.

01

Locate

Surface candidate mines & tailings from 320,000+ mapped assets, including abandoned and heritage workings.

02

Score

Rank each asset with the GeaSpirit Score — strategic-mineral relevance, waste-recovery potential, data confidence.

03

Flag funding-ready

Filter to assets that match PNEM / CRMA criteria — the shortlist worth a grant application or a waste-evaluation study.

04

Connect

Bridge rights-holders, investors and exploration companies around the highest-potential targets.

Why it matters: Spain is now officially investing to locate old mines and valorize mining waste — the precise niche GeaSpirit occupies. GeaSpirit can identify these assets before they are developed, and prepare the intelligence that turns a candidate into a funding-ready project.

Work with GeaSpirit on the PNEM

// intelligence & screening — request-only

GeaSpirit provides asset-location, scoring and funding-readiness intelligence for parties active in the PNEM and EU critical-raw-materials space: permit-holders, junior miners, consultancies preparing applications, and public institutions building the national mineral-potential database.

GeaSpirit is an intelligence layer, not a mining operator or a financial intermediary. Access is request-based. Figures on this page are drawn from public sources (BOE / IGME-CSIC / official program documentation) and are informational; verify against the official call before applying.
